Cyberknife

The Vienna Center for Medicine and Health cooperates with the European Cyberknife Center Munich-Großhadern.

The Cyberknife is used for radiosurgical treatment of tumors in the entire body.

The Cyberknife system is a new, revolutionary invention in the field of medicine – it combines the three innovative developments of medical high technology:

1. precision robotics

2. image localization system

3. respiratory compensation

Thanks to this unique technology, well-defined tumors in the brain, spinal cord, spine, lung, liver and kidney or prostate can be treated precisely and effectively. In contrast to conventional radiotherapy, radiosurgery treatment as a special form of radiotherapy is usually performed once or in individual cases in up to five sessions.

Proton Therapy

We cooperate with the MedAustron Center nearby Vienna, an outstanding partical-radiation unit, that offers both protons and among a very few centers worldwide also ions.

This technology offers the possibility of increased healing chances and protection of the healthy tissue surrounding the tumor.

The targeted concentration of proton energy directly in the tumor reduces the total radiation dose in healthy tissue to a maximum of one-third or less compared to X-ray radiation with the same tumor dose, depending on the respective tumor geometry.

The side effects are reduced when irradiating with protons.

Since higher individual doses per session are possible with proton irradiation, the number of sessions required can often be significantly reduced compared with X-ray irradiation. This means relief for the patients and allows them to be treated in a shorter time.

Radiotherapy

Conventional but technological enhanced radio therapy.

Radiation therapy involves the use of high-energy, i.e., electromagnetic radiation to treat tumor diseases.

Two main types of ionizing radiation are used: photon radiation and particle radiation.

Radiation therapy can be performed alone or in conjunction with surgery and/or chemotherapy, depending on the type of tumor.
